Elkhonon Goldberg, Ph.D.
Our mentor and inspirer, active scientist, clinician and educator, one of Alexander Luria’s closest living students and associates, Elkhonon Goldberg is internationally renowned for his research in cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology. He has authored several widely acclaimed books which have been translated into many languages. He lectures worldwide. Goldberg is also a clinician with an active practice in neuropsychology. He is the head of The Luria Neuroscience Institute and Luria Neuroscience Foundation.

OUR MISSION
Goldberg Neuroscience and Neuropsychology Institute in Ukraine is an organization dedicated to advancing research and education in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology
Our mission is to inspire, educate and train specialists in neuropsychological rehabilitation providing state-of-the-art understanding of neuroscience in the framework of cross-cultural psychology, integrating the classical Eastern “Lurian” and the modern Western neuropsychological schools.
Our Work
Clinical work
Our volunteers work pro bono both online and in hospitals in Ukraine. We strive to provide neuropsychological diagnosis and treatment for Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who suffered from traumatic brain injury by creating and implementing individual cognitive rehabilitation programs.
Our diagnostic assessment protocol identifies both strengths and weaknesses in our patients’ cognitive profiles, as well as individual psychological coping styles and strategies.
From diagnosis to rehabilitation, our multidisciplinary team uses pen and paper and digital cognitive tests to tailor individual rehabilitation programs targeting patient’s impaired cognitive domains and functions (visual-spatial perception, short-term and long-term visual and verbal memory, working memory, attention, executive functions, impulse control etc).
Education
We provide education and training for Ukrainian practicing psychologists and psychology graduate students who want to get a specialisation in neuropsychology and work in cognitive rehabilitation in multidisciplinary teams.
We train the Ukrainian colleagues in state-of-the art methods and tools of neuropsychology and clinical psychology/psychiatry so that they can be more effective in dealing with TBI and PTSD in their patients. In many cases TBI and PTSD are combined and further complicated by depression, anxiety, insomnia, and even epileptic seizures.
We developed and launched a virtual research conference in June of 2022 for the Ukrainian mental health professionals with an international roster of speakers. At the conference we discussed our research and practical experience with selected diagnostic and cognitive programs for the cognitive rehabilitation of the service members. It is also important to note that the organisation of international conferences showcases the practical experience and development of neuroscience in Ukraine.
Research
The war injuries suffered by the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians represent unique clinical material. Our vision is that research should be done in this area, so that many people could be helped in Ukraine, as the war is ongoing and the number of people suffering from TBI and PTSD increases.
